Be Humble

Be Humble
September 05, 2017

As summer comes to a close and we try our very hardest to not slip into a state of sun-deprived depression over that fact (seasonal affective disorder, anyone?), we wanted to spend the month of September focusing on something the world could use a whole lot more of: humility.

In an industry where downtime is nearly non existent and anything but the best is unacceptable, being humble is somewhat of a lost art. Humility—especially in today’s world—is often associated with weakness or lack of success, though it shouldn’t be. The Look at me! Look at me! culture perpetuated by social media and selfie sticks (do we sound like your grumpy grandpa yet?) often convinces us that we should brag about our accomplishments, compete with others, and gauge the success of our life’s wins via likes, comments and shares—but, while we’re all for social media and strategic sharing in the name of growing your business, sometimes the biggest statement we can make is by making no statement at all.

We love today’s quote, then, because it reminds us that success speaks for itself and that it’s OK to not brag about every goal you accomplish or every accolade you receive (even if it means your followers won’t know about it!). The idea of keeping our head down and working hard in silence isn’t a sexy or exciting one, but it is, certainly, a tried-and-true one. Awards and accomplishments speak for themselves, and by letting them do so, we often wield more power than we would otherwise.

Because it’s September and we’re feeling generous, we’ll also offer up this second gem to help explain what we mean: Banksy once said, “I don't know why people are so keen to put the details of their private life in public; they forget that invisibility is a superpower.” We love this idea—of invisibility and humility as the ultimate superpower. The squeaky wheel may get the grease, but the quiet wheel is the one everyone wishes for. So, as we head into the fall wedding season, we encourage you to download today’s wallpaper and let it remind you to keep your eyes on the prize and let your killer success speak for itself.

Cheers, Aisle Planners, to being humble!
