Behind the Scenes: The Making of "The Inn Crowd" Industry Event

Behind the Scenes: The Making of “The Inn Crowd” Industry Event
April 19, 2017

There are lots of great opportunities to connect with your industry friends - sometimes too many to fit on your calendar! But, as fun as these events can be, oftentimes they are large and loud and get in the way to really networking with other pros.

So, in an effort to create an intimate event that showed off an amazing venue, Kelsey of Kelsey Rae Designs teamed up with The Inn at Rancho Santa Fe's Catering Manager, Morgan Wessells to plan The Fam Event! Keep reading to learn about the process of planning the event and for some behind the scenes action!

Any day I get to plan a wedding or event at The Inn at Rancho Santa Fe, is a good day for me! When Morgan asked me to come on board and help plan the FAM Trip at The Inn, I quickly jumped at the opportunity! It’s such a pretty property and I was excited for the chance to learn the layout more, work with the amazing staff and plan something super special for a select group of high end wedding planners.

Morgan wanted to showcase all The Inn had to offer. This included the different spaces, the food and the accommodations. We quickly got to work solidifying the exclusive invite list and the overall vision and layout for the event. It all started with an amazing lunch in Morada, The Inn’s on-site restaurant, with Tam and Jill of Isari Floral Studio, and the design magic got underway!

We all had certain vendors in mind we wanted to work with, those that are true pioneers in our industry and have a great reputation. Morgan and I began reaching out to vendors and everyone was so eager to be involved. We nailed down the vendor list pretty quickly and got to work on the vision mood board. We all decided to “explore Europe,” which began with a more Tuscan feel for dinner and a sweet French feel for lunch the following day. We worked together to sort out linen options and Tam helped me choose rentals from Jake Duke that would compliment all the looks and her florals. What Tam did with the space, is truly incredible! She hung garland from the light fixtures and displayed the most beautiful deep rich tones in the florals for dinner. Due do an insane rain storm that hit during the weekend, we had to move our lunch from the lawn outside, into the same room as dinner. Tam, once again, did an amazing job transforming the space into something totally different than what was experienced the evening before. We did a table in the shape of a giant “X” for something a little different! The florals had hints of yellow and blue and it was the perfect touch for the space and theme.

Overall, I think the event was a huge hit! We had some of the countries most successful wedding planners and vendors in one area and we all learned from each other, ate amazing food and shared stories about our businesses. We bonded and gained new friendships and made old friendships even stronger. That is a success in my book!
